Assistance Every Step of the Way

Most morbidly obese people lead a sedentary lifestyle. This isn't just from being overweight, but often from pain caused by stress on the joints. As your weight disappears, physical exercise becomes less painful and more fun. Our physical therapist has designed a program that gradually increases your exercise level as pounds and pain go away. You'll start with a few minutes of stretching daily, until you reach the daily activity level goal that you set for yourself.

Following bariatric surgery you will have a new "tool" that helps restrict your eating so that you cannot consume large portions of food at one sitting. This also increases your feeling of satisfaction after each meal. Our nutrition specialists will guide you through the process of learning to use this new tool to achieve optimal benefits.

Don't overlook the importance of psychological support. You will have access to a psychologist who understands obesity, a support group, websites for information, and the Mercy Bariatric Team.
