Leslie C. McClellan, MD, FASMBS
 A list of honors and accolades make up the reputation of Dr. Leslie McClellan. One of the leading surgeons in her field, Dr. McClellan is a board certified general surgeon specializing in bariatric surgery. Dr. McClellan was the first female bariatric surgeon in the state of Illinois, and is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
Dr. McClellan's education credentials include undergraduate study at Johns Hopkins University. She completed her general surgery residency at the University of Chicago. Dr. McClellan was trained by the former president of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. She has been practicing bariatric surgery since 1992. Dr. McClellan is an attending surgeon at Mercy Harvard Hospital in Harvard Illinois.
Dr. McClellan is experienced the field of bariatric surgery. "These are very successful procedures," Dr. McClellan says of her work. "It's the only successful long-term treatment for obesity." Her expertise however, extends beyond that of her surgical abilities. She is well in tune with the needs of her patients on every level.
"Morbid obesity is truly a disease and not the fault of the patient," Dr. McClellan says. She understands that people who suffer from this disease are born with the condition and face a life-long struggle. Consulting with her patients before surgery, and maintaining that connection after, is top priority for Dr. McClellan. "Every patient is different and there are a number of different operations. We need to figure out what surgery is best for them." Dr. McClellan also provides extensive post-surgery support for all patients.
Recently Dr. McClellan was honored with a National Medical Expert award. This award is given each year to expert doctors who have set an exemplary standard of excellence and surgical mastery in their field. Dr. McClellan has also been featured as a guest medical expert in the field of bariatric surgery on medical news television shows, PBS and The Learning Channel. Dr. McClellan is truly one of this country's top bariatric surgeons.
